The building remained a landmark of Le Mans life: on August 22, 1944, two weeks after the Liberation of Le Mans, General de Gaulle addressed the crowd gathered on Place des Jacobins from the theater's balconies.\n\nDeemed dilapidated after the war, the building was thoroughly renovated starting in 1959 to designs by municipal architect Pierre Savin, in a squarer, plainer style that gave up the classical tiered design in favor of a portico preceded by a large rectangular mass. This second theater was finally demolished on December 17, 2009.\n\nThe current theater, the third building on the site, opened in 2014. When it was built, it was the third-largest religious building in the city, after the cathedral and La Couture. The nave alternates round and square piers with Romanesque capitals, and the choir opens onto an ambulatory with three apsidal chapels. A Gothic vault was added in the 15th century. The building was enlarged in the 19th century by architect Denis Darcy, a student of Viollet-le-Duc. Stained-glass windows and a Stations of the Cross by Max Ingrand, dating from 1950, can be seen inside."]
