More about Golf de Sargé
Le Mans Golf Club Sargé sits on a plateau about 5 km northeast of downtown Le Mans. It offers an 18-hole course (par 72, 6,012 meters) designed by architect Antoine d'Ormesson, along with a compact 3-hole pitch & putt. The course winds through a wooded park with more than 100 tree species (oaks, maples, Lombardy poplars...), with wide fairways lined with thick rough and several doglegs, including the 16th hole, known for its wall of poplars.
The club has full facilities: driving range, a 600 m² putting green, a 250 m² chipping green, a practice bunker, golf cart rental, pro shop and Wi-Fi. The clubhouse, set in a restored former Sarthe farmhouse, houses the restaurant “La 25e Heure,” featuring local produce. A golf school welcomes beginners, kids and school groups in a friendly atmosphere, with instruction from a professional holding a BPJEPS diploma. The course is open year-round, seven days a week.
A bit of history
The Golf de Sargé course was created in the late 1980s (1989 according to several specialist sources), designed by French golf architect Antoine d'Ormesson, who also designed Golf des Ormes. The site was chosen for its wooded plateau terrain, typical of the Sarthe bocage, suited to a technical layout mixing open fairways and doglegs.
In 2019, the Miraton family took over the running of the golf course and launched a modernization program: drainage work, renewed irrigation systems (multi-directional sprinklers), and improved green maintenance, aimed at more sustainable management of the course and better use of its existing tree heritage.
