The screening

An Art and Film event with the Société des Amis des Musées du Mans, centered on a documentary from the “Expositions sur grand écran” (Exhibitions on Screen) series.

The film traces the first major retrospective devoted to Whistler in thirty years, held at Tate Britain. A contemporary of the Impressionists, admired by Manet and Van Gogh, the painter defended “art for art's sake” and brought painting and music closer together in his “nocturnes” and “harmonies.”

James McNeill Whistler, David Bickerstaff, 2026, 1 hr 34 min, VOST (original version with French subtitles).
