The Abbaye Royale de l’Épau invites the public to explore its little-known movable heritage during a talk on the ancient tapestries kept on site. On Thursday, November 12, from 7 to 8:30 PM, Alexandra Buvignier, a speaker with the CAUE de la Sarthe (Conseil d’Architecture, d’Urbanisme et de l’Environnement, the Sarthe architecture and urban planning council), presents about ten tapestries, mostly dating from the 17th century, including the most iconic pieces kept by the abbey. A chance to learn more about this historic textile furnishing, its manufacturing techniques, its themes, and its role in decorating the great homes and religious buildings of the Ancien Régime. The talk takes place in the setting of the 13th-century Cistercian abbey, managed by the Sarthe Department. Prices: €7 full price, €5 reduced rate, free for children under 10. Holders of the Carte Bérengère (€22/year) get free access to the site’s full program.
