More about Le Scarron

On Place des Jacobins, in the center of Le Mans (tram T2, Jacobins-Quinconces stop), Le Scarron is a human-scale live music venue run by the Superforma association. With 299 standing places (146 seated), it sits between small café-concert rooms and large performance halls, designed to bring artists and audiences close together.

The programming, largely geared toward discovery, spans electronic, pop, punk, jazz, rock and metal, featuring emerging and established artists alike. The hall has a state-of-the-art sound system designed to halve the perceived volume at equal loudness. Superforma programs 75% of the music, and the remaining 25% is made available to the City of Le Mans for other cultural events. The building also houses part of Superforma's office staff.

A bit of history

Le Scarron occupies a former historic theater in the city center of Le Mans, known successively as the Théâtre Paul Scarron and then the Centre théâtral du Maine. It operated as a theater for about thirty years.

Starting in January 2026, the venue has been run by Superforma, a cultural association supported by the City of Le Mans, which has transformed it into a club entirely dedicated to contemporary music and artistic discovery. Before reopening, the building underwent major work: roof repairs, thermal and acoustic insulation, ventilation renovation, new dressing rooms, and office space on the upper floor.

The building's original construction date and its history before its use as a theater could not be established with certainty from the sources consulted.
